The walk

This is as straightforward a stretch as the Way offers. You leave Tyndrum under Beinn Odhar, with the pyramid of Beinn Dorain for company across the glen floor. The West Highland Line peels off over a viaduct. Bridge of Orchy is the mid-section stop: hotel, toilets, and a station. After the village the Old Military Road climbs to a view of Loch Tulla and the Black Mount, then drops to the hotel at Inveroran.

  2. Beinn Dorain and the glen

    Soon after Tyndrum you skirt Beinn Odhar. Beinn Dorain sits ahead, a pyramid on the glen floor all the way to Bridge of Orchy. The railway peels off to the right over the Kinglass viaduct.

    Bridge of Orchy

    The glen drops to the hotel, toilets, and the station. On the 8- and 9-day this is the night. On the 7-day it is the mid-section pause before the climb to Loch Tulla.

  4. The climb

    Loch Tulla and the Black Mount

    After the village the Way joins the Old Military Road. A short climb opens a view across Loch Tulla and the Black Mount. Then the path drops to the hotel at Inveroran.

    The hotel is the place. A handful of buildings. No shop.

If you walk the Way from Fort William to Milngavie, this is the stretch that leaves the moor edge and drops to Bridge of Orchy, then follows the glen under Beinn Dorain into Tyndrum. Same military road and easy path as the northbound day. Tyndrum is the first shop after the moor.

How hard is Tyndrum to Inveroran?
It is the most straightforward of the eight official sections: a good path on the glen floor, then one short climb on the Old Military Road. The rocky north shore and Rannoch Moor are the hard days. This is the easy glen in between.

Most people take 4–5 hours, plus a stop at Bridge of Orchy. No preset walks this official pair as its own day. On the 7-day it is the first half of Day 5, which continues to Kingshouse. The 8- and 9-day sleep at Bridge of Orchy.
Is Inveroran on the West Highland Way?
Yes. The signed path passes the hotel. It is a handful of buildings, not a village with a shop. The next official section starts here and heads onto Rannoch Moor.
Where should I stay after this section?
The official end is the Inveroran Hotel. Book ahead in summer. Most 7-day walkers continue across the moor to Kingshouse the same day. The 8- and 9-day sleep at Bridge of Orchy, still on this official stretch. The 5- and 6-day also stop at Bridge of Orchy, after a longer morning from Inverarnan.
